“Rarely, if ever, are any of us healed in isolation. Healing is an act of communion”
-Bell Hooks
Have you heard of a platza?
A platza is traditional Russian bodywork practice that uses hot/cold therapy to improve blood circulation both overall and in the specific areas of application. Fresh birch or oak tree called veniks can be used right after they are soaked in warm water for 10-25 minutes and are heated up for 2-3 more minutes in the sauna itself. The treatment is 30 minutes (15 minutes of heat exposure and 15 minutes of cold exposure) and done in a steam sauna heated at around 200 degrees Fahrenheit in the warmest part of the sauna and ends in a cold plunge pool floating stretch at around 30 degrees. It is a type of Somatic body work that provides an otherworldly experience grounding the client back into their body and alleviating chronic pain and tense muscles and bound fascia. This treatment will be a staple in the bathhouse and is truly the nucleus of Black Moon Bathhouse. Our Founder I’Sha Schultz-Spradlin, featured in the clip below, is the only known Black Queer woman to practice this technique and was featured on PBS’s show Startup for her platza work at The Schvitz.

Black Moon Bathhouse is seeking to raise 1.5 million dollars in total.
75% of that capital raising is being solicited by accredited investors and grants and the other 25% crowdfunded by interested folks like yourself and smaller investors. We are taking this approach because we want to remain Black women-owned and co-op operated.
We are currently crowdfunding through I Fund Women with their rewards-based crowdfunding to raise $250,000.
